Established in 2021, Biodiversity Africa is a leading biodiversity consulting firm who provide pre- and post construction ecological services to new and existing developments. Our mission is to collaborate with clients to find innovative and practical solutions that foster sustainable development while preserving the rich ecological heritage of Africa.

 
Amber Jackson and Tarryn Martin each have over a decade of experience, consulting as faunal and botanical specialists respectively, as well as managing large International Environmental Assessments in Africa. They are passionate biodiversity specialists with extensive experience throughout  Africa.

Services Offered

Critical Habitat Assessments are essential for projects seeking international finance or those operating in high biodiversity landscapes. We conduct assessments in line with IFC Performance Standard 6, evaluating whether project areas meet criteria for Critical Habitat based on global biodiversity importance.
Ecosystem Services Assessments are also essential for projects seeking international finance. We identify and assess the benefits that people derive from ecosystems—These studies help decision-makers understand how development may alter ecosystem functions and inform planning to avoid adverse social and ecological outcomes.
Botanical, Faunal, and Terrestrial Biodiversity Pre-Feasibility Screening Assessments are used to identify potential ecological risks and fatal flaws at an early stage of project planning, prior to commencing with an EIA. Assessments guide developments toward ecologically viable areas and away from sensitive or no-go zones, reducing permitting delays, saving on costly EIAs and improving conservation outcomes.
Botanical and Faunal Impact Assessments assess the likelihood of occurrence of Species of Conservation Concern (SCC) within a project area. Where SCCs are present—or likely to occur—potential impacts are evaluated, and appropriate mitigation and management measures are proposed to reduce risk to biodiversity.
Terrestrial Biodiversity Assessments are comprehensive field-based studies that evaluate ecological patterns, species composition, and habitat integrity by drawing on various specialist studies (Plants, Animals, Birds, Aquatic, Bats etc) and assessing these in relation to conservation planning tools that are available such as Critical Biodiversity Areas, Key Biodiversity Areas and Protected Areas, to name a few. We strive to identify and understand the features driving the classification of these areas so that we can provide comment on the impact of development on the management objectives of these features. These assessments inform Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) and guide land-use planning in line with biodiversity regulations and best practices.
Management plans including Alien Invasive Management Plans, Plant Search and Rescue Plans, Revegetation and Rehabilitation Plans, Faunal Translocation Plans.
